Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun Episode 1 Anime Review

If you thought sports anime were all about training montages and rivalries, Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun (aka Hands Off Kotesashi-kun) is here to surprise you. Episode 1 kicks off with a blend of sports, school life, and a whole lot of awkward physical comedy.

The series follows Kōyō Kotesashi, a high school freshman who dreams of becoming a sports doctor. To earn his scholarship, he takes on an unusual part-time job, serving as the dorm manager and massage therapist for a girls’ dorm full of elite young athletes.

Sounds like a setup for chaos? You’re absolutely right.

Within minutes of Episode 1, Kōyō accidentally walks in on Aroma Kusunoki, one of the dorm’s residents, and immediately earns a reputation as a total pervert. What follows is a flurry of misunderstandings, massages, and moments that toe the line between comedy and embarrassment.

Instead of focusing on competitions or tournaments, Kotesashi-kun takes a more personal route by exploring the care and recovery side of athletics. It’s refreshing to see a protagonist who isn’t an athlete but still deeply connected to the sports world.

The humor is very situational, the kind that makes you cringe, laugh, and facepalm at the same time. Kōyō’s reactions are priceless, and the dorm girls’ over-the-top misunderstandings give the episode its biggest laughs.

Beneath the fanservice, there’s actually some charm. Kōyō’s genuine desire to help others and his scientific curiosity make him more than just a cliché “accidental pervert.” You can see that the show might have room to grow beyond its awkward beginnings.

The show bounces between slapstick comedy and slightly risqué moments, which can feel uneven. Some viewers might find the humor uncomfortable or over-the-top.

The art style is fine but not particularly eye-catching. It’s serviceable for a rom-com, but nothing about Episode 1’s visuals really stands out.

Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun Episode 1 is exactly what it promises to be: a wild mix of comedy, awkward misunderstandings, and sports-themed chaos. It’s not deep, and it’s definitely not subtle, but it delivers a few good laughs and sets up potential for fun character moments later on.

If you’re looking for something light, slightly spicy, and unapologetically goofy, this might be worth a try.
