Some experiments change the world. Others change your life. Episode 1 of Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! takes that idea and turns it into something surprisingly heartwarming and a little awkward as two scientists find themselves playing “parents” to the world’s most advanced android girl.
We meet Enji and Suzume, two brilliant but hilariously awkward scientists. Their latest creation, Alma, is a top-of-the-line combat android designed to serve as the ultimate weapon. Everything goes according to plan, until Alma wakes up, looks at her creators, and proudly declares:
At first glance, this could’ve been just another “android learns emotions” story, but Alma-chan approaches it with a focus on family. Instead of asking “Can machines love?”, it asks something simpler and sweeter: what makes people feel like they belong?
Enji and Suzume are the definition of “book-smart, emotionally clueless”. Watching these two geniuses try to figure out how to parent is a highlight of the episode. The humor lands because it’s genuine, not slapstick, just real people struggling to express care.
The tone is soft and wholesome, almost slice-of-life in pacing. Even though Alma was built for battle, the show focuses more on small daily discoveries, learning how to cook, asking questions, and misunderstanding human habits in the cutest ways possible.
Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! Episode 1 is equal parts comedy, sci-fi, and found-family warmth. It doesn’t try to be flashy or intense, it just tells a sweet story about connection, belonging, and what it means to be loved.
If you’re into heartwarming anime like Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, Plastic Memories, or Buddy Daddies, this first episode will absolutely charm you.
