Dad Is a Hero, Mom Is a Spirit, I’m a Reincarnator Episode 1 Anime Review

Reincarnation stories are everywhere these days, but few start with such a wholesome setup. Dad Is a Hero, Mom Is a Spirit, I’m a Reincarnator opens with a rare mix of high fantasy, family warmth, and gentle humor. Episode 1 doesn’t just introduce a new world, it builds a family you actually want to root for.

The episode follows Ellen, an eight-year-old girl who’s anything but ordinary. In her past life, she was a modern-day scientist. In this one, she’s the daughter of Rovel, a legendary hero, and Origin, the Queen of Spirits. That makes Ellen part human, part spirit, and entirely fascinating.

When Rovel finally returns home after a decade away on heroic duties, the family’s reunion is equal parts heartwarming and awkward. Ellen, with her reincarnated intelligence and curiosity, tries to bridge the gap between her battle-hardened dad and ethereal mom and it’s in those quiet, domestic moments that the show shines.

Instead of yet another isekai protagonist starting from scratch, Dad Is a Hero gives us a reincarnator who already has a family and one that actually loves her. Watching this trio navigate life together feels refreshing and comforting.

Ellen’s scientific mind gives her powers a clever spin. Rather than relying solely on fantasy logic, her ability to manipulate chemical elements feels like a cool bridge between worlds a nice touch that adds personality to her reincarnation.

Rovel isn’t just “the hero dad.” He’s awkward, kind, and quietly vulnerable. Origin’s calm spirit energy brings balance to the family. Their banter and clumsy attempts at parenting feel genuine and make the fantasy setting feel surprisingly human.

Unlike most reincarnation anime filled with battles or revenge plots, this one slows things down. Episode 1 focuses on warmth, curiosity, and emotional connection. Think By the Grace of the Gods or Ascendance of a Bookworm, but with more family heart.

The art style is clean, but the animation doesn’t always stand out. It gets the job done, but doesn’t quite elevate the story yet.

Episode 1 of Dad Is a Hero, Mom Is a Spirit, I’m a Reincarnator is a surprisingly heartwarming start. It’s not here to blow you away with spectacle, it’s here to make you care. Between Ellen’s quiet intelligence, her parents’ clumsy affection, and the soft, magical world they inhabit, this feels like the kind of series you relax with after a long day.

If you’re looking for a fantasy story that balances emotion, humor, and world-building and reminds you that family can be the most powerful magic of all.
